The building of primary school ‘De Inktvis’ in Dirksland not only looks striking, it also contains the latest technical gadgets. It is built sustainably, with a sophisticated heating and ventilation system and a green roof for insulation.
In the building, the corridors and the classrooms meander, all have entresols, each of which yielded an additional 14 square meters of space, where, for example, a class library with a reading corner was situated. Under the stairs is storing space. Thanks to an extra contribution from the municipality and substantial sponsoring by the windmill cooperative Deltawind on Goeree Overflakkee, the school is provided with an energy-efficient heat pump. This takes heat from the earth by pumping cooling water to a depth of 50 meters, where it is always 15 degrees. In the winter the water only needs to be slightly re-heated, in the summer it is cool. The heat pump is connected to floor heating, so no radiators are needed. Heat exchangers ensure ventilation and clean air in the building.
The school also has hardwood frames, heat-resistant glass and a roof that is partly covered with tiles and partly with moss and Sedum. Under those plants, the playroom stays nice and cool in the summer.
